Saturday April 9 - Sunday April 10
10 am - 6 pm each day

 

Come learn how to safely encapsulate a placenta and provide holistic postpartum care. You’ll get plenty of hands-on experience in this 16-hour in-person workshop. Doulas, midwives, nurses, childbirth educators, lactation counselors, prenatal yoga teachers, other healthcare and birth professionals, and parents-to-be are all welcome. The workshop is open to the general public and no previous healthcare or birth experience is required, although it is helpful.

 

Day 1 (Saturday) we will cover:

  • Benefits of placentophagy

  • Safe handling and preparation of the placenta

  • Supplies needed for encapsulation

  • Demonstration of all steps of placenta encapsulation process

  • Hands-on practice with a real placenta

  • Raw and steamed methods

  • Placenta printmaking (you get to keep the prints you make!)

  • Making cord keepsakes

  • Advanced placenta remedies – smoothies, tinctures and salves

  • Proper sanitation protocol

  • Anatomy and physiology of the placenta

  • Placental variations and abnormalities

  • Professional ethics for placenta encapsulators

  • Forms, contracts, and handling clients

     

Day 2 (Sunday) we will cover:

  • Normal postpartum transition and recovery

  • Postpartum belly binding

  • Herbal sitz baths

  • Moxibustion

  • Mother roasting

  • Nutritious and delicious foods for postpartum

  • Postpartum depression and other mood disorders

  • Safe aromatherapy use

  • Gentle movement for the first six weeks

  • Healing from a vaginal or Cesarean birth

     

Certification requirements will be discussed in detail at the training, and will include:

 

  • Completion of the two-day training

  • Completion of all required reading assignments

  • Compile a comprehensive list of postpartum resources available in your area

  • 2 short research papers

  • Multiple choice exam

  • 3 client evaluations

  • Signed agreement to adhere to professional ethics in the field of placenta preparation

  • Completion of Biologix bloodborne pathogens course and food handling safety course
